Latvia - a captive of superpowers in the 20th century
The Latvian Institute has developed a brief on-line presentation that describes how successive Soviet and Nazi German invasions of Latvia during World War II led to a 50-year Soviet occupation of Latvia. "Latvia - a captive of superpowers in the 20th century" outlines the political and military consequences of the 1939 Stalin-Hitler pact which paved the way for the Soviet occupation and illegal incorporation of the Republic of Latvia into the USSR in 1940. This was followed by a Nazi German occupation in 1941, and the subsequent Soviet re-occupation of Latvia in 1944. Conditions of Use.

An advance look at travelling exibit of photographs depicting the many faces of Latvia's Song and Dance Celebration tradition.
